The reduction, elimination, or suspension of a legal proceeding, charge, or financial obligation.
What is Causation?
Causation is the legal link between a defendant’s conduct and the plaintiff’s harm. It requires proving both actual cause (“but for” the action, the harm wouldn’t occur) and proximate cause (the harm was a foreseeable consequence of the action).
Why It Matters?
It determines legal responsibility and whether damages can be awarded.
Example
If a driver runs a red light and hits another car, their action is the causation of the victim’s injuries.
